About Split

Things to know about Dugi Rat
Dugi Rat is a small place between Split and Dubrovnik. Whilst the town is relatively small with just a few hundred people living in it. The most
popular place to visit for most would be the beaches; and fortunately Dugi Rat has a couple of beautiful beaches; one of em being Duce beach, a sandy beach that’s perfect for anyone.
The small town has a couple of must-see necropolises scattered throughout; along with several churches in various cemetaries around the place. There’s also several smaller villages surrounding Dugi Rat, with around 300 old strong houses being preserved in em.
Over the years several forts were built in Dugi Rat that pirates used as realiable hideouts in the mountains. But one of the most well known ones would be Fortress Mirabella which was built in the 13th century; along with Fortress Starigrad. There’s also some other historical places all throughout Dugi Rat, along with famous gates Zadvarje, town museum that is filled with ancient artifacts and archeological finds. But the interesting thing about them is that each historic monument in Dugi Rat is enveloped in mysterious or rather funny legends.
There’s also a few cultural festivals that happen throughout the year; whilst they might not be as big as some of the main towns like Dubrovnik, Split or Zagreb; there’s always a fair bit of activity in them. The most popular cultural events including traditional singers called “Klape”, along with theatrical performances that entertain the locals.
