Diocletian Palace walking tour Split
The city of Split is one of the most famous towns in Croatia. An intraregional transport hub and popular tourist destination, the city is linked to the Adriatic islands and the Apennine peninsula. Home to Diocletian’s Palace, built for the Roman emperor in 305 CE, the city was founded as a Greek colony.

The Diocletian palace in Split is the most popular attraction; concerning tours in Split that is, with it’s narrow alleys and big open squares like Peristil by the bell tower St. Duje which you just want to walk around in. Naturally you can get a feel for the city in a matter of a couple of days alone but that doesn’t mean there’s not much to see and explore in this architectural beauty.

Diocletian Palace is one of the best preserved monuments of the Roman architecture in the world. The ruins of Diocletian’s Palace, built between the late 3rd and the early 4th centuries A.D., can be found throughout the city.
The Emperor’s Palace was built as a combination of a luxury villa – summer house and a Roman military camp (castrum), divided into four parts with two main streets. Southern part of the Palace was, in this scheme, intended for the Emperor’s apartment and appropriate governmental and religious ceremonies, while the north part was for the Imperial guard – the military, servants, storage etc.

The famous TV series “Game of Thrones” had several shots filmed in the palace and it’s basements; where Daenerys kept her dragons. Split and other neighbouring towns had an influx of tourists since the show started, making room for a couple of walking tours to be created visiting the filming locations such as Split and Dubrovnik.

Now that I bored you with the various offers you can take a breather and decide on what tour/tours in Split you want to try out. For any questions you may have don’t hesitate to contact us!
